Built for the friend group

A villathat holds the whole trip.

Santa Teresa is built for the group trips that aren't resort weekends — friend reunions, bachelorettes, milestone birthdays, founder retreats, post-wedding wind-downs. Casa Calyx sleeps six across three bedrooms with two queen-style rooms and a third that runs as a workspace or fourth bed. The chef-designed kitchen opens wide to the Pacific so cooking for six is a dinner party, not a chore.

The long table on the deck holds the lunch that runs into sunset. The pool stays open until the cicadas go quiet. Below — how the six of you sleep, the six moments that hold the week, a seven-day arc from arrival to send-off, the moving parts we coordinate, and the addresses you'll need by name.

The arc

Seven days.Arrival to send-off.

Hover or tap a day to see where you'll be. Skip what doesn't fit your crew — most groups do the boat day, the chef night, the ATV adventure, and one big night out. The rest happens at the long table.

  1. Night 1

    Arrive & cook

Self check-in. Groceries pre-stocked (we arrange — send the list). Open every door, start the music, dinner at the long table. Tequila on the deck. Asleep when you want.

  2. Day 2

    Pool day

Slow morning. Late breakfast in the kitchen. Pool day — floats, music, lunch in the water. Walk down to Playa Carmen for the sunset. Easy dinner at Amici or pizzas in.

  3. Day 3

    Tortuga Island

7am pickup from the villa. Snorkel two reefs, lunch on the sand at Tortuga Island, dolphins on the run back. Back at the villa by 4pm for the pool nap.

  4. Night 3

    Sushi + dancing

Table for six at Katana — we hold it on request. Move to La Pasión (Tuesday) or Tikiliano DOPO CENA (Saturday) for the dance floor. Pantera taxi home.

  5. Day 5

    ATV adventure

Two ATVs at the gate. Ride east to Montezuma waterfalls. Lower-tier swim. Long lunch at Playa de los Artistas (Thu–Sun, book ahead). Sunset ride back.

  6. Night 6

    Private chef night

Chef arrives at 5pm, cooks four courses in your kitchen, serves on the deck under the rattan. Hand off the music; pour something good. The dinner you don't move from until 1am.

  7. Day 7

    Sunset send-off

Final pool session. Dinner at Brukas for the cliff sunset, or Convivio for the proper send-off. Pack on the deck. Final tequila. Self check-out — leave in waves.

Group days

Tortuga Island Boat Tour — Half-day · snorkel · lunch on a beachBoat for the whole group

Half-day · snorkel · lunch on a beach

Tortuga Island Boat Tour

Tortuga Island sits an hour off the Nicoya coast — two postcard beaches, a coral reef worth a mask, and water clear enough you'll stay in for hours. Full-day tours from Santa Teresa include the boat ride, two snorkel stops, lunch on the sand, and the run back through pods of dolphins (and humpback whales in season). The most reliable operator is Zuma Tours; departure is from Tambor with a 7am pickup at the villa.

TipWhale season runs July through October — ask for a captain who slows down for them.

ATV Adventure — Self-drive · dirt roads · waterfallsTwo ATVs for six

Self-drive · dirt roads · waterfalls

ATV Adventure

The ATV is the single best decision a Santa Teresa week makes. Once you've got one at the villa, the coast unlocks — Hermosa for the longboard wave, Mal País for the tide pools, the back roads for waterfalls and beaches you wouldn't find on foot. Rentals run by the day or week; we arrange a Michael Streik ATV to be at the gate when you arrive. The dirt road from town to the villa is dusty in dry season — bandana and goggles help.

TipRenting for the full stay is almost always cheaper than rebooking taxis. Helmets are included.

Night · new moon only · glowing water

Bioluminescence Tour

On moonless nights in the Gulf of Nicoya, plankton light up around any movement — drag a hand through the water and it glows blue-green; jump in and your whole body lights up. The tour leaves Santa Teresa around sunset, runs a small boat into a sheltered bay after dark, and returns by 9pm. It is the most surreal hour you'll spend in Costa Rica, and only possible a few nights a month.

TipBook around the new moon for the strongest effect — within three days either side.

Montezuma Waterfalls

Forty-five minutes east of Santa Teresa, the Montezuma waterfalls are the best free swimming holes on the Nicoya peninsula — a three-tiered cascade that drops through rainforest into a deep, swimmable pool. The lower tier is a 15-minute walk from town; sandals with grip help on the slick rocks. Strong swimmers hike to the middle pool for a 7-meter jump from a worn-smooth ledge. The upper tier is for experienced climbers only — fatalities have happened.

TipPair the morning with lunch at Playa de los Artistas a few minutes back toward the village (Thu–Sun only).

Sunset Horseback Ride — On the beach · golden hourGolden hour ride

On the beach · golden hour

Sunset Horseback Ride

Sunset beach horseback rides leave the southern end of Playa Santa Teresa about 90 minutes before the sun drops — local outfitters lead small groups along the surf line as the sky turns. Most rides last 90 minutes; the horses know the route by heart. No experience required, but long pants, a hat, and reef-safe sunscreen all help. Year-round, but the dry season has the most reliable golden hour.

TipBook day-of by 2pm. Three operators work the south end — ask us which we trust this season.

Beach day · 45min toward Tambor

Coco Lito

Forty-five minutes north toward Tambor on a dirt road that gets quieter every kilometer, Coco Lito is the deserted-beach day Costa Rica owes you. White sand, mangroves at the north end, almost no one — even in dry season you'll share it with a handful of locals. There's nothing to buy on the beach, so pack lunch, water, and shade. An ATV or 4WD handles the road.

TipTime the visit around mid tide — high tide eats most of the sand.

Locals, expats, surf-school instructors, the whole town. Saturday nights are the runner-up. The conversion from cafe to club is the magic.

TipThursday after 9pm. Eat dinner first — the kitchen slows once the music starts. Saturdays for the second-best night.

Banana Beach

The headline beach club in Santa Teresa — daybed loungers, oceanfront drinks, and DJ sets that take over from sunset. Wednesday is the cult midweek night with a name DJ; Saturdays draw the bigger weekend crowd. The kitchen runs ceviche and tropical cocktails all afternoon, so the day-into-evening transition is the move.

TipWednesdays for the music, Sundays for the slow day-into-sunset.

Tikiliano Lounge & Cocktail Bar

Open-air tiki lounge with a packed cocktail bar and a DJ booth that takes over Saturday nights — DOPO CENA electronic sessions are the cult booking. Tropical decor, tiki masks, the kind of palm-frond-and-string-lights ambience that defines Santa Teresa nightlife. Quieter weeknights, full house on weekends.

TipSaturday for the DOPO CENA electronic sets. Cocktail menu's strong year-round.

Terezza

Bar-club hybrid perched on the ridge above Mal País, with cocktails on a terrace that catches the Pacific sunset and a small dance floor once the sun's down. Less hectic than La Pasión with views you can't get from town. The early-evening sunset window is the sweet spot.

TipArrive by 6pm for the sunset table — they hold the front row for whoever shows up first.

Hotel Vista de Olas

A daytime spot that earns a sunset visit — an infinity pool perched on the cliff above Mal País with drinks all afternoon and the kitchen running through dusk. More day hang than night hang, but the sunset cocktail window catches the same Pacific view La Pasión guests miss.

TipArrive by 4pm for a poolside chair. The seafood ceviche is the dish.

Mal País Tide Pools

Just south of Santa Teresa, where the coast turns from sand into volcanic rock, the Mal País tide pools fill with starfish, sea urchins, hermit crabs, and tropical fish trapped by the receding ocean. Time it within an hour of low tide — the morning low works best in dry season when the sun catches the water. Bring water shoes (the rocks are sharp), a mask if you want to look closely, and pair with a Mal País lunch on the way back.

TipBest on a falling tide — the pools are still full and animals are most active.
