06:42 — first morningA first morning at Calyx
The kitchen is already lit by the sun. You slide the doors open and the room becomes the jungle. Coffee, by the deck. The pool is still glass. The surf is far enough away to sound like weather.
The first time you stay at Casa Calyx, you spend the morning learning where the light falls — which chair is best at seven, which window catches the wind at ten. By the second day, you stop checking your phone. By the third, you know.
Orientation
Casa Calyx was sited to capture the corridor of wind that runs between the Pacific and the nature reserve. Open every door and the air moves through the entire home.
The Tour

The pool
Chapter 01 / 06
Private. Unfenced from the jungle. Deep enough to float. Stone stairs lead down through palms; loungers wait at the top. Beach essentials live in the cabana — towels, an umbrella, snorkel gear.

The kitchen
Chapter 02 / 06
Sliding windows open the whole kitchen to the wind. Stove, oven, full coffee setup, blender, rice maker, wine glasses. Eat on the long wooden table outside, or at the island.

Living & dining
Chapter 03 / 06
The main floor is a single connected room — daybed, sound system, dining for six. Slide every door open and the room becomes the jungle. Books, light, and the surf in the distance.

The bedrooms
Chapter 04 / 06
Cotton linens, A/C, in-room safes, hangers, irons. Two queen-style rooms catch the morning light from opposite sides — a third room doubles as a workspace with its own balcony.

The office
Chapter 05 / 06
Fiber wifi. Starlink backup. A generator that holds through outages. A wide desk for two, A/C, a walk-out balcony. The 28+ night long-stay rate makes a month easy.

The outdoor
Chapter 06 / 06
Long wooden dining table under the rattan pendant. Lounge chairs on the deck for the slow afternoon. The cross-breeze runs through the whole property — ocean wind on one side, the reserve on the other.

A guest, on the record
“Great location in the heart of Santa Teresa but off the beaten path so very private. Watch the surfers below from the king pool while the monkeys watch you from the trees.”

In the spirit of full disclosure
Casa Calyx is a jungle home in Costa Rica. A few things are worth knowing before you book.
Plumbing is septic-sensitive — toilet paper goes in the bin beside the toilet (common practice in Santa Teresa).
Not suitable for children under 10.
No TV — by design.
No washer or dryer on site; laundromat nearby.
Most guests rent an ATV — easiest way to get around town. We can arrange this for you, or a 4×4 works too.

On the ground
Casa Calyx has a full-time on-site groundskeeper and 24-hour security on the property. You won't see them unless you need them — but they're here. Watering the garden, cleaning between stays, available if something needs fixing.
Jano, our co-host, lives in Santa Teresa and responds within an hour. The keyless lock means you arrive on your own schedule. The combination means you get the privacy of a private home with the back-up of a small hotel.
